Day One This trip to WDW started as all trips to the World very early in the morning 4:00 AM to be exact. Normally being up that early and heading down Florida is a breeze knowing your going to the second happiest place on earth, but both Barb and I have been pulling long days & nights getting ready for vacation and boy did we need this vacation! We had an uneventful trip to the airport where we dropped off the Tink-mobile and boarded our plane. The flight was smooth and ahead of schedule, what more could you ask for. I must say Southwest Airlines does a good job in getting you where you want to go, but they need to do something with the small package peanuts they give you for a snack, mine only had eight peanuts in it……… I guess times are really tough. Wheels down at 10:05 AM and off to find Magical Express. Our wait for the ME bus was a short one and soon we were off to The Beach Club. Check-in was a breeze our CM that helped us was from Scotland, I just loved her voice and she was so pleasant. Best of all our room was ready I think that was a first for us. We raced up to our room to drop off our carry-on bag and to checkout the room. After a few pictures we headed to the park, we always start our trips at MGM……….oh sorry make that Disney’s Hollywood Studios where we had a lunch ADR for burgers and shakes at Sci-fi. After a great lunch we wanted to try out the new Toy Story Midway Mania before it got to busy. We got a little side tracked when we went down the Streets of America and ran into the Mulch, Sweat & Shears band a very cool sounding rock band. The sign in this store front says it all for me if I were the owner of this travel service. We finally made it to TSMM and there was a 40 minute wait for standby line and all the fast passes were gone for the day, so it was the stand by line for us. The wait didn’t seem long at all especially with all neat old games they had in the queue area. Peter Pan view finder wheel. Loading and unloading area. TSMM is a blast to play, kinda like Buzz Lightyear but much better! While we were enjoying TSMM the skies outside opened up we exited into a downpour. Boy, was it raining! I never knew Disney moved the Kali River Rapids to DHS. There were rivers running everywhere. Barb and I agreed we wouldn’t do our usual commando running around the parks type of trip but a more layed back and relax, do only the things we really wanted to do this trip. But I soon found myself looking at Barb’s back side for most of the first day, she must have been on a caffeine buzz or maybe just being a big kid in Disney World, probably a little of both. Tower of Terror and Rock’n’Roller Coaster were up next, both had long wait stand by lines but that didn’t matter “We’re on vacation”. The sky was spitting for most of our first day but we were able to miss most of the heavier showers by ducking into the shops along Hollywood Boulevard. We had an ADR for dinner at Mama Melrose’s and it was a good thing, the wait times were very long for anyone without them. Our host was from Honolulu Hawaii, I asked her why she left such a beautiful place, she said “I was a military brat and that her dad moved from base to base” but she did say some day she would go back to live. Dinner was very good (sorry no pictures) and the service was top notch. After dinner we decided to head back to the resort and relax and get some shut eye. Barb wanted to get things ready for tomorrow so she stayed in the room. I ventured out to see what the Beach Club looked like at night and to see how well or if I could even see Illuminations from the bridge between the Yacht Club and the Boardwalk. The view of the fireworks was great and always Illuminations proved to be one of best fireworks shows Disney has ever put out. This is the last picture I took that day a shot of the Boardwalk, time to charge the batteries in the camera and put this big kid to bed. Day two coming soon.
