Day Two

Day two has us heading on over to Animal Kingdom but before jumping on the bus we needed some breakfast.
On this trip we wanted to try a few restaurants that we hadn’t been to before and Spoodles was one that was always on our list to try but for some reason or another never seem to make it to the final list, so Spoodles it was for breakfast.
Barb had waffles with mascarpone cheese, honey and toasted pecans and for me the all American breakfast. I liked the décor of Spoodles with its hardwood floors and beams. It was a nice homey feeling.

After a very good & filling breakfast, we were on our way to the Animal Kingdom. Our trips to the AK always start with a picture of the Tree of Life and this one would be no different.

Of course, the first thing on our list was Everest, we figured do it now before the lines get too long……….oh and get fast passes for later in the day. Dinosaur was next with It’s Tough to be a Bug to follow, don’t you just love the animals on the Tree of Life?

Back in December, we had tried Yak & Yeti’s counter service and liked it very much, so we thought we’d do it again for lunch. I had the sweet & sour pork and Barb had the child’s meal pork eggroll & fried rice.
Did I forget to mention how crowded the AK was that day it was packed. Lines were long at most attractions but moved quickly. I had stood in line while Barb scouted out a table, I looked for her for while until I spotted her way in the back of Yak & Yedi, the only table left and I knew why it was in the sun, 90º in the sun and in Florida……..now that’s HOT!!!!!

After a tasty lunch we made our way over to Kilimanjaro Safaris for a tour of Africa and then onto Pangani Forest Exploration Trail to visit with a few friends.

It is amazing how Disney can make traveling so fast and easy, one minute we were in Africa and the next we were in Asia visiting with this little guy, he was so cute and full of energy.

We made our slow & relaxing way out of the park but not before taking this picture of Everest on the bridge between Africa and Discovery Island.

We hit the shops on the way out just before Mickey’s Jammin Jungle Parade on our way to the Animal Kingdom Lodge for dinner at Jiko’s.
We arrived at the AKL in plenty of time to browse the gift shop and see all the rehab work being done on the lodge and savannah before sitting down and having a relaxing drink at Victoria Falls Lounge before dinner.

We had eaten at Jiko’s before so we knew we were in for a great meal and Jiko’s didn’t disappoint us. Our server was Jeff and he sure knew his way around that menu, he was probably the best CM we had on this trip. Barb settled on the Portland Pier Scallops served with sweet corn and pea succotash and rocket pesto and I had Kenyan Coffee Barbecue Beef Short Ribs served with crushed potatoes and onion garlic sauce……………OH SOOOOOOO GOOD!!!!!!!  Sorry to say we enjoyed our meal so much we forgot to take pictures.

Darkness had fallen upon us as we exited the AKL, I had mentioned to Barb earlier that I would like to go back to the AK because we had never seen the AK at night. Luck would have it, this was AK’s extra magic hour night WooHoo.
Here is a picture of the Tree of Life at night. Sorry it didn’t come out as good as I hoped.

Our night ended abruptly at the AK with heavy rains but not before we rode Everest several times. Riding Everest at night is like riding Big Thunder Mountain Railroad at night. Its just better in the dark!

We made our way back to the Beach Club to put on some dry clothes and relax. Barb stayed in the room to catch up on some reading and I  ventured out to take a few pictures of the BC at night.
First is the BCV.

Pool area and pirate ship, I think this is the best pool on property. I give it two thumbs up!

These two love birds were left in our room and as for we two love birds its time for bed!

Stay tuned for day three in Epcot.

What a great day you guys had in AK.  Isn't nice to just take your time and not rush around from ride to ride?  Your meals sounded wonderful.  I think Pete and I will have to go to Jiko's on our next trip.  Woody, your pictures are so wonderful.  It makes me feel like we're there with you.
